【Introduction】
Heartworm disease (dirofilariasis) is a serious and potentially fatal disease caused by a blood-borne parasite known as Dirofilaria immitis. It affects dogs, cats and ferrets, but heartworms also live in other mammal species.
Dirofilaria immitis primarily affects the pulmonary arteries, producing inflammation, vascular dysfunction, and pulmonary hypertension. At least 70 species of mosquitoes can serve as intermediate hosts.
Clinical signs of heartworm infection may include a mild persistent cough, reluctance to exercise, fatigue after moderate activity, decreased appetite, and weight loss. As heartworm disease progresses, pets may develop heart failure and the appearance of a swollen belly due to excess fluid in the abdomen.
【Intended Use】
This product is used to qualitatively detect the nucleic acid of Dirofilaria immitis (Dimm) in blood samples. Gene from the host cell DNA is used as an internal control (IC).
