【Introduction】
Feline hemotropic mycoplasmosis (FHM), formerly known as feline infectious anemia or hemobartonellosis, is caused by a tiny bacterial parasite that attaches to the surface of cat’s red blood cells. There are currently three recognized Mycoplasma spp. that are associated with red blood cells of cats: M. haemofelis (Mhf), Candidatus M. haemominutum (Mhm), and Candidatus M. turicensis (Mtc), of which Mhf is the most pathogenic one.
Symptoms of anemia caused by feline infection may not be obvious, so many cases of FHM infection in cats go undetected. However, carriers can still spread the disease to other cats.
If a significant number of red blood cells are destroyed, symptomatic anemia may occur. Pale to white mucous membranes can easily be observed in the conjunctival membranes of the eyes and gums. If jaundice accompanies anemia, the membranes may appear yellow. Due to decreased oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood, cats may quickly become fatigued, weak, and lethargic, and may experience weight loss. Other signs may include fever, enlarged spleen or lymph nodes, and increased heart and respiratory rates.
【Intended Use】
This product can be used for the qualitative detection and differentiation of Mhf, Mhm, and Mtc nucleic acids in blood samples. Gene from the host cell DNA is used as an internal control (IC).
【Specification】
• Packing: 1 Test/Pack, 4 Packs/Box
• Specimen: Anticoagulated whole blood
•Test Time: From sample preparation to final result < 1.5 hour.
