【Introduction】
Strangles is a highly contagious disease of the equine upper respiratory tract caused by Streptococcus equi subspecies equi (S. equi). Infection is characterized by pyrexia, coughing, purulent nasal discharge and the formation of abscesses in the lymph nodes. Horses become infected through inhalation or ingestion of the bacterium. This can occur through horse-to-horse contact, drinking contaminated water, or making contact with infected material or equipment.
Streptococcus equi subspecies zooepidemicus (SEZ) is related to S. equi subspecies equi. SEZ is a Gram-positive bacterium that can cause opportunistic infections in many animal species, including horses, cattle, ponies, swine, sheep, goats, chickens, cats, and dogs. It’s responsible for a wide variety of diseases and issues in horses, including pneumonia, abortions, and upper respiratory, wound, testicular, and neonatal infections.
【Intended Use】
This product is used to qualitatively detect the nucleic acid of S. equi and SEZ in swab samples collected from the nasopharynx, oropharynx, or conjunctiva of symptomatic dog. Gene from the host cell DNA is used as an internal control (IC).
